The World Shakes Its Head

How do you find a way to survive emotionally 
in the world right now?
And in a country that is being torn apart 
by one man and those supporting him?

I’m doing the best I can 
to ride this wretched ship that is carrying
me across the timeline of history—
as an observer. 

I tell my husband, 
“Honey, we are just along for the ride, 
as observers of history.”

All recorded history shows us 
the rise and fall of mankind.
What we are in right now is 
another horrific spot on the timeline.

The questions are:
What will the U.S. look like in the future?
Will it survive?
Will we survive what comes? 

I am very concerned.
My “observer” stance is self-protection 
and preservation of sanity.

The world looks at the U.S. and shakes its head.
History will tell. Time will continue—
that’s the one thing we can count on.
But at what cost?
